In 2010, Ahiam Gonmei asked the boys in PLES 2 to cut down some of the tall, indigenous bamboo trees. Ahiam, along with the schoolboys and local villagers, constructed a shelter for girls without a home. The shelter is very simple - not at all comparable to western construction - but it represents hope for the girls who live there. For perhaps the first time in their lives, these girls have their own beds, shoes, and a few personal items. Most of us can't imagine what it's like to have no-one claim us as their own. For these girls, having a place where they belong, where they have permanent relationships, where they learn about Jesus, and where they have a future is often the most important benefit of their young lives.
You can sponsor these girls. It's just $9 per month per girl. That's right. These girls cost just $9 per month for all of their expenses. You may have noticed that elsewhere on this site there are orphans whose sponsorship is $50 per month. The difference is that those girls have comfortable Seventh-day Adventist homes and schooling. These girls do not enjoy those benefits, but they do have someone (Ahiam) who loves and cares for them, even though they live in a group setting. As sponsorships become available for these girls, they too can be placed in independent Seventh-day Adventist homes. If you'd like to sponsor one or more of these girls, you may do so through the Contact Us page.
